Travelling with your dog in an environmentally friendly way

Once you get a dog, you’ll never want to be out and about without your four-legged friend again. It’s a good thing that you can now take dogs with you almost everywhere, including to our Hotel Luise.

To ensure that dogs and their owners feel completely comfortable with us, here is an overview with the most important information as well as some tips on sustainability with four-legged friends.

Not only our human guests, but also our four-legged friends should be able to sleep well with us. Therefore, a cozy, sustainable dog bed from the Coco-Mat company is available for them. It’s a wonderful place to relax and doze while your master is having breakfast or at the spa. Of course, you shouldn’t forget the corresponding sign on the room door so that no one disturbs Doggo’s beauty sleep.

Dog equipment with meaning

Unfortunately, keeping a dog is not always necessarily environmentally friendly. But with the help of a few tips you can make many things much more sustainable.

Food, toys, care items: there are a lot of things you need for man’s best friend. But it doesn’t always have to be the products from the big chain store around the corner. There are small, owner-managed shops with a great range almost everywhere. These usually offer regional, high-quality and sustainable products – including detailed advice.

In and around Erlangen we can warmly recommend the central “Hundsgemütlich” and the “Fellami” shop just outside. The love for your four-legged friend is immediately noticeable here.

Of course, it’s even more sustainable not to buy anything new in the first place. You can often get creative yourself and protect your wallet and the environment, especially when it comes to toys. For example, you can make a pull toy from old scraps of fabric. There are instructions for this here.

This saves waste and gives discarded things a new meaning.

Food with a clear conscience

The question of the right food is a separate matter. Almost everyone has their own philosophy. But regardless of whether it’s fresh, canned or dry food, there are a few things you can keep in mind to ensure that the food doesn’t increase the ecological footprint too much.

Here, too, you can get advice from specialized staff, particularly in small shops. In any case, the origin of the food should be taken into account and, ideally, regionality and therefore short delivery routes should be chosen. Of course, organic quality and packaging that is as environmentally friendly as possible also score points.

Activities with a wow factor

Anyone traveling with their dog should always think about it in advance and find out what the local conditions are like. Dogs are not allowed everywhere or certain rules apply, such as being on a leash.
But there are many great activities that only have the right wow factor with a four-legged friend. Franconia in particular has numerous wonderful hiking routes and sights that you can explore with your dog. Most of these can also be reached by public transport.

On Location – Where to go for a dog walk?

There is a small pack of treats to fortify you in between meals and, of course, poop bags. There are several green areas right near the hotel and the beautiful Ohmplatz is only about 10 minutes away on foot. If it’s going to be a longer tour, we’ll be happy to give you tips for the most beautiful routes at reception. Or discover the most beautiful gardens, parks and nature reserves in and around Erlangen.

Our favorites include the Bad Windsheim open-air museum, the Hundshaupten wildlife park or a hike around Pottenstein in Franconia.
When the temperatures are warmer, it is always nice to visit the dog beaches in the region. Whether Rothsee, Altmühlsee or small Brombachsee: the choice is large.

No matter what destination it is, the poop bags should definitely not be forgotten. These are already available as sustainable versions, consisting of recycled plastic or biodegradable material.
